(http://www.PreserveMacForte.com) Vital Art and Science has secured approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration for its myVisionTrack software that can help people with eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), reported the Macular Degeneration Association.

According to an article appearing on the organizations website, Vital Art and Science is also interested in getting its myVisionTrack app okayed by the relevant authorities in Europe.

The app is intended for people with retinal issues and eye conditions that include, but are not limited to AMD. Using a visual test incorporated into the app, patients can assess their eyes. The app then tracks changes and automatically directs an alert to a doctor when substantial changes occur.

The article cited Mike Bartlett, president of Vital Art and Science, as saying that myVisionTrack is, at this point in time, only okayed for use on the iPhone 4s, which means that only a fraction of the amount of people who could benefit from the app will actually be able to use it. He added in the article that the company, over the longer term period, wants to ensure that its myVisionTrack app can be used on any smartphone. He added in the article that achieving that objective will require more time and effort.

According to various reports, AMD is an eye condition that generally only impacts older people. However, there are things that people of all ages can do to reduce their risks of coming down with the eye condition. Eating lots of leafy green produce, consuming lots of fruits, eating fish with omega-3 fatty acids regularly, avoiding tobacco, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, keeping cholesterol levels low and going in for annual eye exams will all help to promote good eye health. People with a family history of AMD are more likely than those who do not have such a family history to come down with AMD. This means that those with a family history of macular degeneration should ask their eye doctor how often they need to come in for tests. Following these simple steps can dramatically lower AMD risks.
