(PreserveMacForte.com) The results of spanking new research focusing on people who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD) were recently announced, according to NaplesNews.com on October 9.

The article noted that Dr. Ashish G. Sharma, who works with the Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida, not too long ago presented vision-saving findings at the annual meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists.

According to the article, in excess of 1,000 retina specialists from around the globe were at the conference to hear about the latest developments in the treatment of AMD and other eye ailments from experts such as Dr. Sharma.

According to the article, Dr. Sharma noted that a new therapy might lessen the amount of injections that AMD patients must get to achieve stability. He added, however, that patients should consult with their eye care professionals to find the best drug for them, based of considerations such as patient health records and safety issues pertaining to each drug.

The article noted that Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida and the National Ophthalmic Research Institute have teamed up to take part in numerous clinical trials focusing on Eylea, a drug made by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. According to the article, the wet form of AMD, which happens when abnormal blood vessels develop beneath the macula’s retina, is not the only condition that Eylea is good for. The article added that Eylea can be used to treat other retinal conditions such as branch retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy and central vein occlusions.
